Clean Water

A Well of Hope in La Cruzarilla

By Guatemala Hope
A Well of Hope in La Cruzarilla

Deep in the jungle of Guatemala is a community called La Cruzarilla—a place rich in people, culture, and hope, but painfully poor in the basic resources most of us take for granted.

For many families here, clean water is not a faucet away. Food is not guaranteed. Medical care, education, employment, and basic necessities are often beyond reach.

Families are doing everything they can simply to survive.

And we believe they deserve more than survival.

They deserve hope.

That is why we purchased land in La Cruzarilla with a vision that goes far beyond constructing a building. We want to build a community center and church that will become a place of refuge—a place where people can find food, clean water, spiritual encouragement, education, opportunity, and a community that cares about them.

But before we can build walls, we want to build something even more important:

A well.

The land we purchased in La Cruzarilla, staked out and ready for the first well.

Water Changes Everything

Imagine waking up every morning and not knowing where your family's next drink of clean water will come from.

Imagine having to choose between using contaminated water for drinking, cooking, and washing—or going without.

For the families of La Cruzarilla, this is not imagination. It is everyday life.

The lack of clean water contributes to poor hygiene, infections, disease, and malnutrition. Combined with limited access to healthcare and economic opportunities, these conditions take an enormous toll on the community.

But we believe these conditions do not have to define their future.

One well could change the future of hundreds of families.

The well we are working to build will provide clean, running water to hundreds of homes. It will mean children can drink water without the same fear of contamination. Families can cook and wash with clean water. Hygiene can improve. Disease can be reduced. And something as simple as turning on a faucet can become a daily reminder that someone cared enough to help.

More Than a Well

But this project isn't really about a well.

It's about what happens because of the well.

It is about a child who has clean water to drink.

A mother who can prepare food safely for her family.

A father who can begin thinking beyond tomorrow because his family's most basic needs are being met.

A community discovering that they have not been forgotten.

And ultimately, it is about creating a place where people can encounter hope, dignity, opportunity, and the love of God.

Our vision for La Cruzarilla is to establish a community center and church where we can provide meals, clean water, practical assistance, education, spiritual support, and opportunities that can help families build a better future.

We don't simply want to come into this community, give something, and leave.

We want to become part of the community.

We want to invest in people.

We want to serve families.

We want to raise up leaders.

We want to create opportunities.

And we want to see an entire community transformed—one family, one home, and one life at a time.

The First Drop

Every great transformation begins with a first step.

For La Cruzarilla, we believe that first step can be water.

A well may seem like a simple thing.

But when hundreds of families have never had reliable access to clean running water, a well isn't simple.

It is life.

It is health.

It is dignity.

It is opportunity.

It is hope.

We have already taken a tremendous step of faith by purchasing the land. Now we are asking others to join us in turning that land into a place that will serve the people of La Cruzarilla for generations to come.

Together, we can dig the first well.

And from that well, we pray that something much greater will flow:

clean water, healthy families, restored dignity, new opportunities, and hope for an entire community.

La Cruzarilla may be deep in the jungle of Guatemala, but it is not forgotten.

And this is only the beginning.
